Work Experience Programme
The Quantexa work experience programme is a week long opportunity for teenage girls aged 16 and 17 to learn first hand how exciting it is to work in I.T. Started by our co-founder and avid women in tech advocate Laura Hutton, the program aims to develop participant’s skills, expose them to successful female mentors, and inspire their passion for a continued career in I.T.
Who I am:
I study maths, physics and chemistry for my A-levels, and I hope to study Materials Science at university.
Science and maths have always been my favourite subjects, and I enjoy the problem-solving nature of them. Materials science encompasses all 3 of my A-level subjects and is very practical, as well as increasingly relevant within today’s rapidly changing society. The flexibility of the subject also interests me, as it is a broad field in science that is used in many different industries.
In the future, I would like to work in a technology-related industry.
What I do:
When I started my work experience at Quantexa, I was interested to find out how technology can be used to solve business-related problems. I appreciated the trust Quantexa placed in me in allowing me to attend customer meetings, and it was intriguing to see the use of Quantexa’s network analytics in different situations. During the week we were given a large data set containing data components of the Azerbaijani Laundromat, and we were allowed to interpret anything of interest from the data set. We managed to find the link we were looking for, and create our own network relating a bank and government corruption. This task was challenging, but also exciting when we began to link together all the separate components we had been investigating
What I love:
I play the piano, and particularly enjoy participating in trios and quartets. I also play netball, both competitively and for fun!
